May the 11th, 2025 – The arrival of the new Croatia Airlines A220 planes has been delayed, with disruptions in the global supply chain and more cited as the cause.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Croatia Airlines has been informed that the delivery of some of its Airbus A220 planes has been delayed. It was otherwise scheduled for this year. While the national airline is due to receive its third A220-300 later on this month, no confirmed time frame has yet been announced for the remaining four jets, which are expected to arrive throughout 2025.

Disruptions in the global supply chain, testing and certification processes, a chronic shortage of skilled labour in production facilities and increased global demand for new aircraft are contributing to the extended delivery times.

“The manufacturer has already repeatedly postponed the delivery schedule of the new Croatia Airlines Airbus A220 planes. Further delays for 2025 were announced earlier this year, adding another layer of uncertainty that complicates operational planning and exposes the company to increased costs,” they stated from Croatia Airlines, according to a report from Ex-Yu Aviation News.

The domestic company recorded a staggering operating loss of 15.4 million euros in the first quarter of 2025. Together with the net financing result, gives it a net loss of 15.9 million euros, which is 50 percent more than in the same period last year. The company has been performing poorly for a long time now, and this gives additional concern.

The passenger load factor (PLF) in international scheduled traffic, with two percent more offered capacities, is 59.9 percent (+0.1 percentage point). In domestic scheduled traffic, the number of passengers carried recorded an increase of 3 percent (+2,633 passengers). The passenger load factor (PLF) in domestic scheduled traffic in the first quarter is 63.5 percent (+1.6 percentage points).

In charter traffic, 947 passengers were transported, which is 30 percent less than in the same period in 2024, with charter traffic accounting for slightly less than one percent of total traffic. The loss incurred in the first quarter of 2025 led to a negative balance of capital and reserves for Croatia Airlines, amounting to -14.4 million euros at the end of the observed period.
