May the 13th, 2025 – A brand new 25 million euro road is set to be constructed in Zagreb this summer, which will eventually form an entirely new traffic corridor.

As Poslovni Dnevnik/VL/Hana Ivkovic Simcic writes, this summer, the construction of the extended Ulica Rudolfa Kolaka will begin. Together with the extension of Branimirova, it will form a new traffic corridor north of Avenija Dubrava and Zagrebačka cesta (road) in Sesvete. It will also work to relieve traffic on the central roads in these two busy Zagreb districts, according to a statement from the Zagreb City Administration.

The procurement for the execution of the works on the new road in Zagreb (more specifically regarding the third stage of the works, involving Ulica Rudolfa Kolaka, on the section from the extended Branimirova to Ulica Emanuela Vidovića) has now been launched. In total, the City of Zagreb will construct 2.8 kilometres of brand new road which will be part of the extended Ulica Rudolfa Kolaka and 3.9 kilometres of the Branimirova extension. All together, this represents an investment from the city budget totalling around 60 million euros excluding VAT.

“Ulica Rudolfa Kolaka is extremely important not only for Gornja Dubrava, but for the entire eastern part of Zagreb. This part of the city will get a new northern road with more greenery,” explained Mayor Tomislav Tomašević. The start of works on this new road for Zagreb is expected this summer, with completion on schedule for the end of the year. The public procurement procedure for the contractor for the remaining two sections will be announced in June, with work starting by the end of this year. The completion of the entire Ulica Rudolfa Kolaka extension is expected in 2027.

The total planned value of the extended road project, which will connect Dankovečka Ulica with the extended Branimirova, stands at approximately 25 million euros excluding VAT. The route of the future new road in Zagreb has been defined by the General Urban Plan of the City of Zagreb and Sesvete. Its 39-metre-wide corridor will follow the courses of the Trnava and Čučerska Reka streams, which will remain open waterways and will be integrated into a green traffic belt.

The project to build the extension of Ulica Rudolfa Kolaka will be carried out, as mentioned above, in three stages. The first stage implies the construction of a new road spanning 1,230 metres. It will extend from the roundabout at the intersection of Ulica Rudolfa Kolaka and Dankovečka Ulica, to the intersection with Ulica Klin. The second stage goes from Ulica Klin to the extended Branimirova in the length of 1,397 metres. The third stage, for which the procurement of works has just been announced, extends from the extended Branimirova to Ulica Emanuela Vidovića. and will be 205 metres long.

This extensive project for a new road for Zagreb also includes the construction of a 4.5-metre-wide cycling and pedestrian path, bus stops, two bridges over the stream, utility infrastructure, as well as the landscaping of the entire corridor.
