May the 21st, 2025 – ZET is set to purchase electric buses and construct charging stations as part of a massive 56.7 million euro project.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Zagreb Electric Tram (ZET) is participating in two significant projects aimed at modernising the fleet and infrastructure of public urban transport. This ZET electric bus project is otherwise part of the much wider National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The project entitled “The procurement of low-floor electric buses for ZET” includes the procurement of approximately 70 electric buses, with financing actually being fully provided for a minimum of 62 vehicles.
ZET will order electric buses, of which 30 will be classic vehicles, 26 will be articulated and six will be so-called midi buses. The new ZET buses will be delivered by the end of October 2026, and will have an autonomy of at least 300 kilometres (classic and articulated), or 200 kilometres (midi).
The total value of this enormous ZET project stands at 56.7 million euros including VAT, of which grants from EU funds cover 45.4 million euros. The remaining amount, which relates to ineligible costs such as VAT, will be provided by ZET from its own resources.
ZET has also applied for “The construction of infrastructure for charging electric buses”, which was opened by the Ministry of Economy. The project is tied in with the new ZET electric buses themselves, and envisages the construction of a typical transformer station, the installation of equipment for charging the 70 buses, and the execution of all of the accompanying civil and electrical works.
The deadline for completion of the infrastructure works is the end of June 2026, and the total value of the project amounts to 27.4 million euros including VAT.
